Oral and Written Proficiency Testing
We administer Spoken and Written proficiency tests on behalf of ALTA Language Services. The Spoken test is taken over the phone with a trained evaluator and typically lasts between 30 – 45 minutes. The Written test is composed of 5 short essay questions that the candidate has up to 60 minutes to complete — for more information, including a list of languages available for testing, please see ALTA’s website at www.altalang.com. Whether the candidate needs to take the spoken test, written test, or both is up to the institution for which he is testing.
Cost per test is $100. For more information and scheduling of these tests, please send an email to email@example.com.
Fee Waiver Classes (for State of TN agencies only)
TFLI organizes foreign language classes for fee waiver-eligible state employees. We can send an instructor to any state agency in Nashville and other locations. View our flyer here.
Each class must have 16 employees at the same level of proficiency, wanting to learn the same language. Employees must be eligible for the fee waiver program and have an Edison ID number. Check here for a full explanation of the program. We will be able to find an instructor for most common languages (Spanish, French, German) in most cities throughout the state. The fee waiver program does not cover the cost of books. Classes can take place at your office building, provided there is a classroom, white/black board, and a copy machine. Classroom space is also available at TFLI (Nashville Metro Center) 8 am to 5:30 pm daily. Ideally, each session would be 2 hours and each term would continue for 12 weeks, to emulate our regular group classes.
For more information about scheduling and class options, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 615-741-7579.
Do you plan to work or attend college in a Spanish speaking country? Then consider the SIELE.
“SIELE is the Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española which certifies command of the Spanish language proficiency for students and professionals. SIELE is promoted by the Instituto Cervantes, the Universidad Autónoma de México, the Universidad de Salamanca and the Universidad de Buenos Aires. These institutions guarantee the standards for quality and good practices in the creation of the tests and the use of diverse linguistic varieties in the Hispanic world.
“SIELE certifies the degree of proficiency for the Spanish language with four tests: Reading and listening comprehension, Written expression and interaction and Spoken expression and interaction; the exam also takes as a reference the levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).” – SIELE website
SIELE is more widely recognized in Spanish-speaking countries than ACTFL based tests such as LTI or ALTA. This comprehensive exam is a more affordable option than combining the ALTA Oral and Written Proficiency Tests.
