Affiliations
American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) : TFLI administers two of ACTFL's language assessments: the OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) and the WPT (Written Proficiency Test). ACTFL is the only national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction throughout the U.S. ACTFL and its affiliated organizations represent the educators who are committed to building language proficiency from kindergarten students through adult learners. We provide advocacy, professional development opportunities, resources and opportunities for members to interact and share ideas and experiences.
American Translators Association (ATA) : ATA is a professional association founded to advance the translation and interpreting professions and foster the professional development of individual translators and interpreters. Its 10,000 members in more than 80 countries include translators, interpreters, teachers, project managers, web and software developers, language company owners, hospitals, universities, and government agencies.
Center for Non-Profit Management (CNM) : The Center was created in 1986 by the Frist Foundation and the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville to improve the skills of nonprofit executives in Middle Tennessee. This simple concept has blossomed into a full set of training, consulting and evaluation programs that meet the education and management needs of our growing nonprofit community. The Center now provides a home to Middle Tennessee’s nonprofit leaders by offering a place to relax, to share triumphs, and to find solutions to problems. It is a place for nonprofit board members, executives and staff to learn how to enhance their services – and for the community to appreciate and recognize the enormous positive impact made by these nonprofit agencies.
Habitat for Humanity : Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity plays an active role in the development and construction of affordable housing units. We collaborate with many other housing providers and community-based agencies.
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce : The Tennessee Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (THCC) a non-profit organization, is a state-wide Chamber of Commerce headquartered in Nashville and is inclusive to all citizens of the community as members. Our mission is " To Advocate, Educate and Promote Ecomonic Empowerment of Hispanic Communities and Businesses in Tennessee".
Japan-American Society of Tennessee (JAST) : Providing to the citizens of Tennessee accurate information about the people of Japan and their culture; promoting social, cultural, scientific and educational interchange between Tennessee and Japan; and encouraging appreciation and respect for the differences and similarities of the cultures of the peoples of Japan and Tennessee.
National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT) : The National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators is a professional association that was first chartered as a non-profit organization under New York State laws, and incorporated as the Court Interpreters and Translators Association, Inc. (CITA) in 1978.
Ever since NAJIT was founded, its mission has been to be a leader in promoting quality interpretation and translation services in the judicial system. Our members are mindful of the importance that their services may have in assuring due process and adequate legal representation, as provided for by the 5th, 6th, and 14th Amendments to the United States Constitution
National Early Language Learning Organization (NELL) : The National Network for Early Language Learning is an educational community providing leadership in support of successful early language learning and teaching.
Somali Community Center : The Somali Community Center of Nashville is a non-profit community-based organization created to facilitate the transition of Somalis and other refugees of African origin to life in Nashville and in the broader American community. The SCCN strives to provide consistent community services to Somali and African refugees and to work together to build an environment conducive to refugees’ acquiring the skills necessary to function in their new environment.
Sudanese Community Center and Women's Center : The Sudanese Community and Women's Services Center is a non-profit, community-based organization created to facilitate the transition of Sudanese immigrants to the United States. As it has been mentioned above, we also aim to aid other refugees of African origin who come to live in the Nashville area.
Tennessee Association of Professional Interpreters and Translators : TAPIT is a professional organization for interpreters and translators of written, spoken and signed languages in Tennessee. Among Tapit's members are experts in diverse specialties and professional fields such as judicial, medical and other technical fields.
